UON Bioresources Facility

The University of Newcastle’s new Bio-Resources Laboratory is located on their Callaghan campus. It consists of a 2-storey, 3,500 square metre holding and procedure facility.

The Laboratory areas throughout were required to be built to a PC2 specification (Physical Containment Level 2). This required air locks at the start of each corridor; constant pressure monitoring in each individual laboratory, to ensure the correct directional airflow; and all fixtures and fittings to be sealed to ensure no point of egress for any bacteria.

In order to minimise openings into the rooms for services, such as smoke alarms, visual alarms, and emergency lighting, the Vision Lighting ModuLab trunking system was selected. This allowed all of these services to be mounted in the housing of the luminaires, while still maintain at PC2 level seal.
